Them Lazies N' their FOOD STAMPS!!

Deut. 15:7. If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.

A matter really really close to my heart lately is about all the people on welfare/food stamps, and all the people who are SUPPOSED to be Christians (or even just decent human beings) complaining about it.

I know for the 3 families that NEED food stamps there are probably 3 more individuals who are perfectly capable of providing for themselves and just refuse to (at least here in the Detroit area), but I also KNOW there ARE those families who are hard working and love each other and just need the extra help too!

My next door neighbor is an excellent example.  She works full time and goes to school full time.  She lives with her mom and her brother and her 2 children who are both clean and well taken care of. She has taxes taken out of her check every week, just like you, and pays taxes on the things she buys, just like you.  She also happens to have an ebt card.  Does she sound lazy to you?  Do you think she enjoys that despite the fact she is working so hard and living with her mother to save money she still needs help feeding her family?  I highly doubt it.

I have heard stories of people "saying things" to the person in front of them paying with the bridge card, things like "you're welcome for that" or even worse or more cruel things.  To them I say, SHAME ON YOU! You have no idea what their background or home situation is.  What an awful example of the love of Christ.  If the body of Christ was following its call to feed the poor and care for the widows and orphans, that person wouldn't have to turn to the government to feed their family.

Maybe it's not THEIR laziness you need to be concerned about, maybe its YOURS!  What have you done for the poor in your community lately?  What have you done to reach out and show the love of Christ, father to the fatherless?  If you proclaim to be a Christian, you need to do so everywhere you go, you are not exempt in the line at the grocery store.

Next time, maybe say a prayer for that family, and thank God that you have the ability to pay for your own food with your own money and have some left over for bills as well.  You have the freedom to go through the grocery store line without receiving stares, dirty looks, or comments that can come along with using the Bridge card.

It's not the concept of their perceived laziness that bothers me, its our ACTUAL laziness as Christians which comes to my mind when I see a person use one of those cards.

So what will you do to change it?

Is 41:17. The afflicted and needy are seeking water, but there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them Myself, as the God of Israel I will not forsake them.

Luke 6:20-21. Blessed are you who are poor, for yours in the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

James 2:5. Did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

Here's the door, all you have to do is walk through.

Anyone who knows me well knows I tend to be a very helpful person, I have found this can be as much of a fault as it is a gift.
I learned my senior year of high school/freshman year of college there is such a thing as too much giving.  There are certain people who will take and take and never be there for you.  Unfortunately those people are hard to recognize until it is too late.
This year I seem to be learning about people who just refuse to take. You set everything up for them to solve a problem they confided to you, but they refuse to take the ONE step of action it requires.  They continue to complain, mope, etc. in this problem and you feel like you're screaming your head off saying "JUST DO THIS!! HERE IS THE DOOR, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS WALK THROUGH!!"
No matter how many "strings" I pull, no matter how detailed of information or directions I find, sometimes people are just choosing to be in the situation they are in.  This is also very hard to accept because no one likes to see someone they care about suffering.  Its even harder to realize they won't change it.
Reflecting on this I realize I have only encountered a handful of people like this. How frustrating it must be for God, who is constantly giving, constantly offering blessings, and being ignored.  Imagine the person praying and praying for something. God has prepared the way, but they refuse to see it. They refuse to walk through the door.  He's saying "Here's the door, all you have to do is walk through."
"When God closes a door, he opens a window" is a common saying.  Maybe he closed the door because you were heading for the wrong one.  Maybe you never bothered looking around and seeing that you've been in a  room full of open doors all along.

God, please, please, please. give me a heart to receive.  Give me the eyes to see the blessings and opportunities you have laid before me.  Give me the motivation and determination to walk through those doors and accept your perfect will for my life.

The "Best" version of the Bible

Which version of the Bible is the most true to God's original inspired scripture?  This is a common question and can become a point of contention among various denominations.
I am thankful I was able to see the situation from the outside at a rather young age, and develop my own opinion on the matter outside of parental and authoritative bias.
I used to spend a good deal of time with a young girl named Nafeesa. She was Pakistani and a "Muslim" in the general sense of the word.  Just as many people call themselves "Christians", she was a "Muslim."  One day we got into a discussion about the Qur'an, the "Muslim" bible.  She told me she read the whole thing. (There is only one version of the Qur'an) I knew she didn't speak the language, but she could read it.
You read the whole thing? I asked.
Yes.
Did you understand it?
No, but that doesn't matter because if you read it it makes you a better muslin.
I was baffled thinking maybe she didnt understand my question (English wasn't her first language either).
So you just like, read the sounds?
Right. the whole thing.  She was so proud.  It didn't make sense.

dlsaj sdhl  djfuj dfjhi hurbgk solifr  dehfkjmj dhf ksj ief   There, did that make you get to know me better? Does reading those letters give you more understanding?

I immediately applied this view to OUR Bible, like God was opening my mind saying LOOK! IM TRYING TO TEACH YOU SOMETHING!!

What good is having as close to the original translation as possible if the person doesnt understand it? How does that make them a better christian. Sure, there are instances of divine understanding, but this is a gift like any other, and God does not give it to everyone.

So I think as Christians we should encourage others to read what they can understand and absorb.  Once you are more seasoned, go ahead, reach higher, read the KJV and see if you can find new meanings in the semantics.

Once you have read that, REACH HIGHER! Learn Latin or Hebrew or Greek by reading the Bible in those languages.  Read it in unoriginal languages, because all languages have words we dont use in English that may give a verse a whole new meaning you never thought of!

I think ALL versions of the Bible are the best version of the Bible, because GOD wrote them ALL.  He is inspired and he wants us to understand him, why else would he have given it to us in the first place?

Just wanted to add an new twist on an old point of view, hope you received from it. <3

Hot summer days

Sometimes there is nothing better on these hot summer days than laying in the sun by or in the pool and just letting it all go.  Today was the first time in a long time I just felt soooooo relaxed.  It was lovely.

What do you do to cool off on days such as this?

So difficult to believe...

It's so difficult to believe this tiny, wonderful
person has been in our lives for
over a year and a half.

As his vocabulary and curiosity grows,
parenting gets gradually more frightening.
We constantly wonder and pray if we are
"Doing things right."

I know that if we work hard and continue to seek God's guidance
He will grow up to be an awesome man of God.
Where we fall short God will fill in the cracks,
if only we ask him.

I am still so very grateful for this wonderful blessing.
I worry about being able to love the next one as much as I adore him.
He truly is my world.

Dont just chase your dreams, hunt them.

So my cousin, Carly is going to try out for American Idol tomorrow.  She has been performing since she was little and loves to sing.  She really is a great singer too.  I am so excited and so proud that she is able to chase her dream like this.  Any extra prayers you could send her way would be very appreciated.  I will keep you posted if you make it and hopefully you all can see for yourselves one day just how talented she really is :-)
I have been really emotional and excited for her ever since I found out and it has got me to thinking, I need to work harder to pursue my dreams.  Yes, one of my dreams is to get a bachelor's degree and yes, I am in school.  Two of my biggest dreams are already accomplished, marriage and motherhood.
I have always wanted to publish a book, though, and haven't written creatively in months.  I have always, always, always KNOWN I am supposed to pursue full time missions in Mexico.  I know we are not ready for this yet, but I have not been keeping up on my Spanish like I ought to.
I am realizing more and more, in order to reach your goals, you can't just chase your dreams, you need to hunt them.
Don't just chase your dreams, My friends. HUNT THEM!

The best thing about motherhood...

Being a mother has its ups and downs just like any job.  It is one of the most important jobs there is, however, as someone's life depends on it.  Your parenting will effect every person that your child effects, as they grow to an adult and beyond.
The job description for a mother is longer than any other job you could find.  It requires patience, quick-thinking, sympathy, compassion, faith, wits, love, humor, flexibility (both physical and mental), punctuality, selflessness, and much, much more.  Many of these are qualities we learn and grow in as we go.
One of the best things about being a mother, however, is ALWAYS, no matter what happens all day, no matter how messy the house is, or how you fell short in your patience or quick-thinking, you can always go to bed knowing that that one little person loves you and depends on you more than anyone else in the world.  That's a pretty awesome feeling.
